Reni's Review of HEART BREAKER by Cole Saint Jaimes

Aidan

Surf.

Fuck.

Get high.

Sounds like the perfect day to Aidan Callahan. As second-born son to Chicago’s most influential business owner, Aidan’s life has always been about responsibility. Tradition. Toeing the goddamn line. Just do as you’re told, Aidan. Don’t make waves.

Well, screw that. Riding waves is way more fun than making them.

Hawaii is paradise on earth. Smoking hot women. Tiny bikinis. As far as Aidan’s concerned, wild horses couldn’t drag him kicking and screaming back to the windy city. Or at least that’s what he thought.

When his brother crashes his Mercedes, killing himself on impact, Aidan finds himself next in line to the Callahan fortune and all the ties that come with it.

And this time there’s no getting out of it.

Essie

A warm bed.

A steady job.

A brother who loves her.

For Essie Gray, life’s been one hard kick in the teeth after another. With her parents both dead, her brother is her only living relative. That is until Vaughn’s truck is written off, his life snatched away by the careless actions of a rich playboy in a flashy sports car.

Now, the only thing that will bring Essie peace is revenge. She must take what was taken from her. Only when the name Callahan has been wiped from the face of the earth forever will she be able to start living again.

Of course, the new head of the Callahan Corporation isn’t what she expected. Aidan’s sexy and sad, and just as damaged as she is. Will she be able to distance herself enough to accomplish her goal?

After all, ruining a man’s really hard when you find yourself falling for him…

When Cole Saint Jaimes asked to be my friend on Facebook, I was a little weary. Who was this dude? More importantly, what does he want? I decided to check out his profile. Alright, another up and coming author. What the hell, I’ll give him a shot. Friend request accepted. Scrolling along, I notice a sign-up sheet for ARCs for his upcoming release, Heart Breaker. Don’t mind if I do. I made the best book related decision in months by filling out one tiny little form.

Essie and Aidan come from two VERY different worlds. Essie has had to save and scrimp to get where she is, while Aidan was more or less handed the good-life on a silver platter. Only, Aidan doesn’t want it. He’s content to spend is days, and possibly nights, surfing away on the beaches of Hawaii. His family isn’t happy with his decision, but that hasn’t stopped him from living a simple, peaceful existence.

Essie and her brother live together in a run-down apartment, one they fought like hell to get into. She and her brother rely on one another to make it through. They’re as close as two siblings can be, and while they’re financially troubled, they’re rich in love.

Until everything changes…

Through a twist of fate, one no one saw coming, Essie and Aidan’s lives change forever.

Now Essie is determined to right an impossible wrong.

When I tell you that Cole was born to write, HE WAS BORN TO WRITE.  This is not the quality of work you expect from a first time author. #sorrynotsorrry. It’s more, so much more. Cole’s writing jumps from the pages, making the story play out before your eyes. He’s got a gift, and also a cliffhanger. Bah… But in this very specific case, I’m okay with that. We needed the back story before the nitty gritty, in-depth story telling begins, before these characters break one another.

If you can’t tell already, I loved this book, and I hate saying that because it’s so overused. I thoroughly enjoyed Cole’s writing style. His character development is on point. He wraps you up so tightly in the web he’s spun, that you don’t want to be released. Evil spider…  I cannot wait for the second book to be released. We need answers here, Cole!
