Derek Block seeks revenge. Frankie Jordan seeks professional dominance. He wants her, she wants him. Lines that can’t cross begin to blur. Things start heating up as real estate gets real…
This is episode one of the five-episode novella series Timber Towers.
I
was startled again by the sound of him, of his deep, alluring tone. I didn’t
realize I was still hovering in the doorway. Closing most of the gap between
us, I moved to one of the chairs.
I hooked my bag
onto the back of it, his fingers slicing through the air as they reached for
mine.
“Call
me Derek.” He enclosed my hand with a pressing strength that I assumed was
lightened for my benefit.
Though
his stare remained on my face, I wasn’t able to keep mine on his. I needed a
break, a second to get myself under control.
Control…
I
had obviously lost that, though I didn’t understand why. Polished men were all
I knew, all I had ever been attracted to: groomed and well-dressed, pretty and
sharp, even cocky and somewhat selfish. They were certainly never burly or
animalistic like Derek. So why was he having this kind of physical effect on
me?
This book opens up in a super hot scene, only to have it cut short because of reality. Frankie Jordan is Boston's leading real estate agent, and she's determined to move forward with her career and life goals. She's not looking for love; she's looking for her next client to sign their contract.
"I’d never been handcuffed or spanked, but when he spoke, when his gaze traveled over my body, I felt like he was doing both, with his mouth…with his eyes.”
Derek Block is Boston's newest real estate developer and looking for the top agent to sell his luxury apartments to the cities elite. He's got a filthy mouth (my favorite), and his mind is on Frankie.
“There was nothing cheap about Frankie. She wasn’t hot; she was exquisite. She was pink ivory, the rarest wood I had ever gotten my hands on…though I hadn’t touched her. Not yet.”
I'm torn with this book. There was so much inner dialogue it kind of bothered me. I was all about their sexy thoughts but just wanted it to happen already! It was kind of frustrating for me that it took so long for anything with Derek and Frankie to happen and then it was over in a flash and the dreaded "to be continued...". I really want to know what the deal is with the demise of Reed and Frankie's relationship, too. I'm sure we'll find out more soon enough. Not to worry though, episode two of Unblocked will be out in about six weeks.
This was my first read by Marni Mann. I definitely enjoyed her writing style. I loved that Frankie is a strong woman with goals and not a doormat that we unfortunately read too often these days. Derek was kind of perfect in his brawny way instead of the uptight billionaire which I loved too. With that being said, I'm very excited to read the next installments in this series!
