Defenseless comes to us as a standalone in Corinne Michaels' Salvation Series. It is perfect by itself but I definitely recommend reading the previous books in the series so you know about all of the mentioned characters.

Mark, our lovable Twilight. We met him all the way in the beginning of Salvation Series as Jackson's best friend in Beloved. He's the good guy of the group. Always there for a laugh but can't be taken seriously. 

Charlie is new to the series. She was present and helped our favorite SEALs capture their brother overseas. As a CIA operative, she takes every aspect of her life seriously and doesn't have time for love. 

"I wish I could let myself get lost in you."

Two things that I loved about Defenseless: 1. It's a complete standalone. Corinne loved to torture her beloved readers with some crazy cliffhangers and this story ends on a high note in one book. 2. This book has serious tones, but Mark and Charlie's constant back and forth leave us holding our sides in laughter for much of the book. 

"Take it tonight, but if you hurt me...I'll kill you."

Corinne's writing has serious toned but Defenseless was a lighter read for me. Mark and Charlie met their match in each other and the angst, love, lust and laughter are all perfectly presented. I found myself clutching my kindle with questions of what's going to happen next, slapping my knee in laughter and smiling with happiness. I really have nothing negative to say about Defenseless. It really is a perfectly packaged story.
