Secrets. Every family has them. The unseen. The unheard. The things that would tear a family apart if discovered. Cassidy Delaney has a secret. One she wished she didn’t have to keep.
Brock Mason thought the secret was safe.
He had no idea their secret wasn’t the only one Cassidy was hiding.
Damn you, Kasey Millstead - Spoiler
Alert (not really) - you snuck a stepsibling romance in right under my nose. I’m
usually the first to roll my eyes and move on from one of those. In this case, I’m kind of grateful that you were such a
sneak.
There are all these little facets of feelings and emotions that all stack u against my need to want to be with him. There is a complex range of issues that would require attending to before we even thought about embarking on a relationship.
Family Secrets is a second chance romance. I know I said it’s a
stepsibling book. Uh huh, it’s also that. Both, it’s both. Cassidy falls for
her stepbrother (Brock) but due to unforeseen circumstances, she’s forced to
leave her “family” and face life on her own. When she finds herself on a dating show, she has to face things she never anticipated she would. Skeletons, no matter how
far you push them to the back, have a funny way of making their way out of the
closet.
Truth be told? I think this
should have been a full length novel. Kasey tries to pack a ton into this short
novella. If she had stretched it out a bit more, the impact would have been
greater. Also, the sex. Everyone loves a good sex scene, but I also like them
to be somewhat realistic. When a character is having sex for the first time, it
should seem like it. And again, if she’s having it again after waiting six
years, there should probably be some insecurity, or at least some good stretching
needed to get in there. Crude, I know. I’m just keepin’ it real.
Side note: Cassidy’s mother
is a horrible creature. Someone should shave her head and dye her eyebrows
green while she’s sleeping.
Family Secrets is a very quick,
easy, entertaining read. If you’re looking for something to take with you to
the beach or to read on a lazy summer afternoon, this is definitely a good
choice (even if it does involve an alpha stepbrother…)
