A girl with a dark history…

Avery Bresllin took a leap of faith when she changed her name. As Avery Patterson, she is no longer the daughter of a serial killer. No longer the girl who was bullied and abused through high school. A fresh name and a fresh start at Columbia University means Avery can leave all that behind. There’s only one thing marring her dream of a clean slate….

A boy with a past of his own…

Luke Reid has a lot going for him: sex appeal, badass tattoos and insane musical talent. Despite his guitar skills, his calling in life has always been to serve and protect. A NYPD cop by day, singer in rock band D.M.F by night, from the outside Luke seems like he’s got it made. But falling for a girl whose father was accused of deeply sinister acts—a man whom Luke shared a devastating history with, himself—only serves to complicated things.

Pieces of a puzzle…. Four symbols, four methods of destruction. A trade. Borrowed wings. Dark secrets that threaten to destroy.

Author's Note: This book was previously released under the pen name Nikita Rae. There have been significant changes to the storyline and voices of the characters. The book has also been re-edited. Please make sure the original book is not already in your kindle library before purchasing! New Adult Romantic Suspense novel. Suitable for readers 16+

I first learned about this book when Frankie Rose (Callie Hart) posted a vlog about it's re-release.  She had originally written it under another pen name, Nikita Rae. The new version of Winter is changed up with more of Luke's POV and room for a bit of a cliffhanger leading up to book 2 in the series: Summer.

I really like this side of Frankie Rose's writing. I fell in love with Callie Hart's Blood & Roses series, since it was all dark and suspenseful and sexy as hell.  Frankie does great job with the new adult genre. Avery is a relatable college-age character who is battling daily with her past life.  Her father is dead, her mother practically disowned her, she's left with a monthly allowance and a few college friends in New York City.

“Just stop pushing me away.  I may not know exactly what you mean when you say that you’re falling.  The way you said it sounded like it was a bad thing.  But you have to know that I’ll atch you.  Whatever happens, I'll catch you.”

Luke knows Avery from her former life in Wyoming, it's ingrained in him to serve and protect; help others when they're down.  He happens to step back into her life while trying to break up a college party.  As much as Avery wants to deny her feelings for Luke, they're there and she can't deny it much more.

“I kiss him like this is my first kiss and I'm minutes away from dying a virgin.”

So much happens in this book, and I really can't give any of it away without it leading to spoilers, and we all hate spoilers (at least I do). I laughed, cried, gasped, and was truly satisfied with the ending.  A bit of a cliffhanger, but you won't be on the edge of your seat waiting for Summer to be released.

 Well done, Frankie!

Frankie Rose was born in the United Kingdom, but now lives with her husband in sunny Australia.

She officially makes things up for a living, and when she's not doing that, she is generally making paper birds out of receipts and old lists or taking photographs that make her smile.
