Max Leokov has watched the people around him find love.
At one point in life, he not only wanted that, but lived for it.
He loved once. He loved with all his heart.
His heart broken, he was left to care for his young daughter.
He deserves a second chance.
Helena Kovac has spent years studying.
She has worked her ass off to get her degree.
She doesn't have time for love. Hell, she doesn't have time to mess around, even.
Books and work are her life. Everything else comes second.
When Max and Helena join forces to help his daughter, Ceecee, they are shocked at the spark between them.
A cynic.
A workaholic.
When love hits, it hits hard.
And sometimes, love hurts.
Oh Belle
Aurora, you never do me wrong.
I have been
waiting, not so patiently, for Max’s story since I met him and his charmingly
flirtatious ways in Friend-Zoned, the first novel in Belle Aurora’s Friend-Zoned
series. (And somehow I missed its release… FOR SHAME.) If the man where less
fictional and more flesh and blood…
Helena is
Nat’s sister. Nat is Tina’s bestie. Are you following me? If not, you should
probably rewind, close out this page, and read the series from the beginning.
You’ll love it. If you are following me, you’re aware of the fact that Nat and
her sisters are a little…out-spoken, spunky, sassy, loud, obnoxious,
straightforward – take your pick. In other words, they’re fan-fuckin’-tastic. When
Helena lands her dream job, she’s forced pack up her life and move clear across
the country. Good news? Her sister Nat lives in NYC (where she’s headed). Bad
news? So does her “crush”- Max. The same man that completely snubbed her at Nat
and Asher’s wedding. And avoiding him may be damn near impossible.
When Helena
is forced to spend more time with Max and his daughter CeeCee, the sparks begin
to fly. Before they have time to process what’s happening between them, the two
agree upon a no strings attached, friends with benefits arrangement of sorts.
It doesn’t take long for the feels to move in. As they do, things get more
complicated and lines are blurred. Both have had horrible relationships in the
past and are afraid of history repeating itself. But they can’t deny what’s
brewing between them.
The best
part of a Belle Aurora novel? The writing. The way that woman’s brain works
makes me want to stand up and cheer. No, really, it does. I love the one liners
and little quips. The things that came out of Helena’s mouth… I love a smart,
sassy heroine. They’re my absolute favorite. Belle did not disappoint with
Helena. Bonus – we also get Nat and Nina. It’s like a three for one sass-fest!
Max is the
loveable flirt. The guy who has more female friends than male. The type that
hugs, kisses, and loves on everyone! While slightly annoying, it’s difficult
not to love him for his affectionate ways. Obviously
Helena finds him hard to resist. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention what an
AMAZING father Max is. Anytime a man steps up as a parent, I swoon – hard. And
with CeeCee, God, it’s a double swoon.
“Anyone who’s ever told you you’re too much doesn’t know you at all.” I run my hand down the side of his cheek and state, “You’re the perfect amount of much.”
My only complaint
is how quickly the two fell into a relationship. 60% of the book focused on Max
trying to win Helena over while Helena did anything and everything she could to
resist. Then – BAM – the two were an item and shortly after, in love. I would
have liked a little more of a progression into Malena status. Thanks, Nat.
Listen, if
you need a book, you can’t go wrong with Belle. You. Just. Can’t. I’ve read a
bunch of her work, and I have loved each and every word. Sugar Rush is no exception. You’ll fall in love with Max and
Helena. Let them share their story with you.
