I WANT IT THAT WAY by Ann Aguirre Blog Tour, Review + Giveaway!

Nadia Conrad has big dreams, and she’s determined to make them come true. But between maintaining her college scholarship and working at the local day care to support herself, dating’s the last thing on her mind. Then she moves into a new apartment and meets the taciturn yet irresistible guy in 1B….

Daniel Tyler has grown up too fast. Becoming a single dad at twenty turned his life upside down—and brought him heartache he can’t risk again. Now, as he raises his four-year-old son while balancing a full-time construction management job and night classes, the last thing he wants is noisy students living in the apartment upstairs. But one night, Nadia’s and Ty’s paths cross, and soon they can’t stay away from each other.

The timing is all wrong—but love happens when it happens. And you can’t know what you truly need until you stand to lose it.

"A tender, sweet, and sexy story about how life—and falling in love—can never be planned."—Jennifer L. Armentrout, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Wait for You

Other Books in the 2B Trilogy:

Before being introduced to this pop sensation inspired book title, I’d never even heard of Ann Aguirre. After stalking her on Goodreads, I learned that Ann is quite the author. She has a few pages worth of published work. As I looked closer I noticed that most of her novels are paranormal/sci-fi/steampunk novels. That explains it. I don’t normally read that genre. It’s not that I am a book snob – okay, maybe I am – those stories just don’t usually appeal to me.

I Want It That Way…

You know that as soon as you read the title you burst out in song. Don’t lie. It’s okay; you’re in good company. I did it too.  Can't say that I've ever been much of a Back Street Boys fan, but even I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to attempt my own rendition. You better thank your lucky stars that this isn’t a vlog.

Wowza….

It would appear that Ms. Aguirre and I are/were both trying something new…

This is the sweet story of a very young father who’s unsure about getting involved with someone. Ever. Again.  Daniel Tyler (or Ty) kinda had a crappy experience the last time he let a woman in. It left scars on his heart and a son in his care. To be flat-out honest with you, his story makes no sense to me. He pushes his ex to have their baby, which she never wanted, and then she leaves him… Suck it up man. So. You pushed the woman to birth your child. And? I would have probably done the same thing. It’s not your fault that she split, and it’s most definitely NOT Nadia’s fault. So don’t take it out on her! When Ty meets Nadia Conrad (his new upstairs neighbor) he’s hesitant to start any kind of relationship with her. Understandable. He has a kid, responsibilities, and a broken heart… All reasons why staying away would be deemed acceptable.

Well, he doesn’t stay away…

Eventually the two grow closer, and Nadia even develops a relationship with Ty’s son, Sam. All is well and good until Ty decides that he and Nadia should become friends with benefits. When in the history of ever has that worked out for a couple? I’m gonna venture out on a limb here and say never. Er, bad choice, you two. Either commit to one another or move on. The whole friends with benefits thing was slightly annoying, and so was Ty’s reasoning for engaging in that type of friendship in the first place.

“Most people aren’t interested in getting to know someone who can’t be spontaneous, who’s on a completely fixed schedule and may be a grumpy asshole on any given day.”
"Yet here I am.”
"Yeah, well. You’re…unique.”

The story is – like I said earlier – very sweet. I liked the characters well enough. As sick as it sounds, I liked Ty best when he was being an asshole. I enjoyed Nadia’s roommates and the family they formed; always holding one another up when they wanted nothing more than to fall down.  I do wish that the storyline had developed a little faster, and that Nadia would have grown more of a backbone. I get that you want to bump uglies with this dude, but for god sake, have some self-respect. I’m attracted to strong, take-no-shit heroines, and Nadia definitely wasn’t one of those.

Overall, I Want It That Way was a decent read. If nothing else, it has me looking forward to the next two books in this trilogy.
