CHASING RIVER (Burying Water, #3) by K.A. Tucker Blog Tour: Reni's Review + Giveaway!

CR Review Tour Banner_edited-1

Chasing River - Cover
Armed with two years' worth of savings and the need to experience life outside the bubble of her Oregon small town, twenty-five-year old Amber Welles is prepared for anything. Except dying in Dublin. Had it not been for the bravery of a stranger, she might have. But he takes off before she has the chance to offer her gratitude.

Twenty-four-year-old River Delaney is rattled. No one was supposed to get hurt. But then that American tourist showed up. He couldn't let her die, but he also couldn't risk being identified at the scene—so, he ran. Back to his everyday life of running his family’s pub. Only, everyday life is getting more and more complicated, thanks to his brother, Aengus, and his criminal associations. When the American girl tracks River down, he quickly realizes how much he likes her, how wrong she is for him. And how dangerous it is to have her around. Chasing her off would be the smart move.

Maybe it's because he saved her life, or maybe it's because he's completely different from everything she's left behind, but Amber finds herself chasing after River Delaney. Amber isn’t the kind of girl to chase after anyone.

And River isn't the kind of guy she'd want to catch.

Chasing River Quote Card 1

I fancy all things Irish - the history and heritage, the dancing, the funny little pubs filled to the brim with drunk men singing Irish folk songs, the dancing, the beer – everything. And reading about those things makes my heart happy. Even when the words splashed across the pages have to do with the IRA and their rather terroristic state, as of late. If my heart had lips it would smile, one of those over-the-top, cheesy, toothy grins. K.A. Tucker blew me away with Chasing River.  She managed to capture the depressing history of an entire nation in one epic romance.

Amber Welles is on the trip of a life time. Remember Amber? She’s the sister of Jesse. (He’s the hero in Burying Water, in case you forgot.) She was inspired to travel by an old college professor, and after saving up a ridiculous amount of money working as a nurse; Amber has mapped out an impressive journey, one she’ll never forget.

River Delaney has two “jobs”:

11.  Working in his family’s pub, Delaney’s
22.     Looking out for his older brother, Aengus.

While attempting to stop his brother from making yet another “mistake” with his life, River saves Amber’s life, running before she has a chance to find out who he is, or better yet, before the authorities do. You see, River’s brother is mixed up with the RIRA. It’s like the IRA, only terroristic. It would have Michael Collins (the founder for the IRA) rolling over in his grave. Young men, and maybe women, acting like a bunch of monkey’s, running around throwing pipe bombs and terrorizing innocent civilians. Aengus is mixed up in all that, and it’s not only effecting his life, but River’s, and their younger brother’s, as well. Amber doesn’t know who saved her life, but she’s determined to find out. And once she does, all hell breaks loose.

I’ll take the bait.

I’ll chase you, River.

Ms. Tucker basically weaves a Romeo and Juliet feel throughout this novel. Two individuals who meet and fall in love but shouldn’t be together because an ocean and some legal issues divide them. It’s quite tragic in a lot of ways.

Don’t read too much into that last statement…

“I guess you can go now,” Amber murmurs, her breath skating against my bare collarbone, sending shivers down my back.

“I guess I can.” I don’t want to, I want to spend tonight with her, and tomorrow. I want to spend every second with Amber until she leaves.

I don’t want her to leave.

My only complaint is that the ending came so abruptly. There was a huge build-up and the story seemed to wrapped up so quickly. Well, that and I don’t understand how River’s parents were so accepting of Amber. She’s an American of English decent (at least as far as last names are concerned.) You would expect at least a dirty look, right? Then again, who wouldn’t want a well-educated nurse who absolutely adores their son?

Chasing River rivals Becoming Rain for my favorite book of this series. The rich cultural undertones and fact that the hero has an Irish accent completely did me in. I fell in love with River right along with Amber and can only imagine that you will, too. Surviving Ice (Burying Water, #4) cannot release soon enough. I need more of the Burying Water series, and I need it NOW!

Chasing River - Teaser 2

And don’t forget BURYING WATER and BECOMING RAIN, the first two books in this thrilling series…

Burying Water

The top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.

Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?

Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.

The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.

Though it's not exactly legal, Luke's never been one to worry about that sort of thing. Especially when it puts him behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 and onto the radar of gorgeous socialite named Rain.

Clara Bertelli is at the top of her game—at only twenty-six years old, she's one of the most successful undercover officers in the Washington D.C. major crime unit, and she's just been handed a case that could catapult her career and expose one of the west coast's most notorious car theft rings. But, in order to do it, she'll need to go deep undercover as Rain Martines. Her target? The twenty-four-year old nephew of a key player who appears ready to follow in his uncle's footsteps.

Aria has just finished her first year at college and is still recovering from the tragedy of losing her family eleven years prior.  No matter what she does, she can't escape the nightmares and horrible panic that comes with the thoughts of what happened that fateful day.  She's trying to come to terms with her new life after her mother remarries and she finds herself at her step-fathers lake house for the summer.  She's gaining three brothers she's never met and she's not too happy about it.

"It'll be a good way for us to bond.  The boys will love you.  They always wanted a sister."

Blade is broody, arrogant and sexy.  The last thing he wants is to add more people into his family life.  He has no idea that Aria played a huge part in his past once he sees her at the lake house because during their sordid weekend together, they never exchanged names.  Aria is forbidden and addicting and he can't stay away from her.

"Something could happen tomorrow, or it could last the rest of your life.  Live for the moment and live for your heart, not for everyone else's."

I'll admit, I'm a sucker for forbidden romance.  I don't know what it is but I always fall into and enjoy them.  Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to this book.  The step-sibling romance has been terribly overdone in the last few months so I wasn't expecting much from it.  One of my favorite books is a step-sibling romance so I didn't want to cloud my judgement of Step-Lover with my feelings for that book.  With that being said, I really enjoyed Step-Lover.  This was my first book of Bella Jewel's and I'm glad I read it.  I loved that the characters were a bit older, Blade being 24.  They weren't naive, they knew what they were doing.  I also loved that they met before their parents ever did.  Their love happened and they coudn't deny it.  Blade pissed me off with his actions and I felt so sorry for Aria because of what she went through.  Step-Lover had many emotional ups and downs, the right amount of funny, angst and love.

Bella Jewel is a self published, USA Today bestselling author. She’s been publishing since 2013. Her first release was a contemporary romance, Hell’s Knights which topped the charts upon release. Since that time, she has published over five novels, gaining a bestseller status on numerous platforms. She lives in North Queensland and is currently studying editing and proofreading to further expand her career. Bella has been writing since she was just shy of fifteen years old. In Summer 2013 she was offered an ebook deal through Montlake Romance for her bestselling modern day pirate series, Enslaved By The Ocean. She plans to expand her writing career, planning many new releases for the future.

Two strangers. Two broken hearts. One night to set each other free.

Almost dying from an undiagnosed heart condition means every second of your life is a precious gift to be guarded.Lena Pettitt was born a miracle. And her parents never let her forget it.Even if that daily reminder kept her from experiencing the one thing they were trying to protect most--her life.

Gabriel Martinez’s heart has been ripped out.His pride has been stomped on.Oh, and he now has an arrest record that’s caused an even bigger rift between him and his DA mother. All for a love that wasn’t really true.

Now he’s exiled to his grandmother’s, working on his late grandpa’s old Corvair when a shivering girl knocks on the garage door. Lena, left alone for the first time ever, has locked herself out of her house--in the snow. Gabe knows he could help this girl get back inside her house--but that may mean missing the next train to Boston to pick up the part he’s spent eight weeks tracking down. She can wait for him at his grandmother’s or…

A few hours, an aluminum valve cover, and some strong coffee later, neither Gabe or Lena can feign disappointment when they race to the station and arrive just as the last train home from Boston is pulling out.

As jaded as he is, Gabe can’t deny the fact that he’s excited to spend the night exploring a city he knows nearly every corner of, with a girl who sees magic in the simplest things.

Lena has been waiting for her tiny world to crack open her entire life. Now that it’s finally happened, she finds the only thing she can focus on is the unexpected tour guide who opens her eyes to possibilities she never imagined.

All they have is this one night, together, under the bright moon in a city full of hidden beauty.

It’s one night that will change how they see the world and the paths their hearts will take forever.

“So what happened?” Lena asks. She takes another sip of her drink, then rests her hand on the the laminate countertop near mine. I want to focus on that. How close she is. How close she’s allowing me to be to her for the first time tonight. What I don’t want to be doing is talking about my ex-girlfriend. "Why aren’t you together anymore?"

Making love to her was like sleeping with a starfish.

She loved the thrill of a political protest more than she actually loved me.

She was happy to see me hauled off to jail for her cause, because it added a little drama to her life.

“I don’t know, I guess you can only make exceptions for people for so long before they all just sound like excuses.”

“You, or her?”

I suck in a quick breath before answering,“Maybe both?”

She stares down at her wrist, spinning the blue beads on her bracelet as she says, “But you loved her.”

It isn’t a question.

I nod slowly. “I did.”

“And now--”

“Now, I’ve moved on.” I shrug.

“Have you really?” Lena asks. “Because when she hugged you--”

I don’t really understand why we have to talk about this. So we ran into Jemma, it doesn’t mean the entire relationship needs to be rehashed over pie. Doing that will only lead to me having to discuss my arrest, and that’s not something I want to talk about with the girl who looks at me with those big brown eyes that scream trust and understanding and all the things I don’t even come close to deserving from someone.

I turn my barstool toward her, brushing her knee with my own. The simple touch is more electric and intimate than sex with my starfish ex.

“Look, Lena,” I say, as I wrap a straw wrapper around my index finger. “This isn’t something I want to get into.”

“You’ve asked me a bunch of questions tonight,” she presses.

That’s fair. I’ve spent the last several hours trying to drag every bit of information I can out of this crazy mysterious, beautiful girl.

Our server comes by the table to refill our drinks. “Can I just get the check?” I ask, hopeful she'll just let it drop after a change of venue.

“I’m not finished,” Lena says, motioning to her half-eaten piece of pie.

“I’m ready to go,” I say.

“Oh, because I asked you a question you don’t want to answer now?” she demands.

“No, Lena. I’m just ready to go.”

“Liar,” she mumbles under her breath. It’d be cute if it weren't so damn accurate.

I pull out my wallet as soon as our check arrives and hand over my debit card.

“I’m not a liar," I say, it comes out more harsh than I intend. "It’s just--being in love doesn’t define you. No matter what romantic idea you have in your head, love doesn’t go to the most deserving. It's not something you collect, like, the more the better. Love isn't a trinket passed down. It’s a wound left behind. Love changes you, but not always in a good way. It’s a goddamn scar.”

Blog Tour Review of AGAIN by Lisa Burstein

How far would you go for a second chance?

Eleven years after flunking out of college, Kate has finally hit rock-bottom. Losing her job and boyfriend in one drunken night, she’s determined to fix her life by going back to the moment when she let partying and sex take over and do things right. At twenty-nine, she heads back to freshman year of college, with a catch.

Pretending she's nineteen with a new roommate and full class schedule is easy. When she meets her shy, sexy and seven-years-younger RA Carter, following her self-imposed sobriety and celibacy rules is proving to be anything but.

A senior enduring years of regret, Carter is more than ready to graduate. He’s anxious to move on from the party his freshman year where he witnessed his frat brothers about to commit a sexual assault. Instead of doing the right thing and stepping in, he looked the other way and left. His guilt has made for a lonely four years.

When he meets the new freshman on his floor, spunky and confident Kate, he wonders if his time as an outcast has finally come to an end.

Kate and Carter’s growing friendship and undeniable attraction make it harder to hide the demons from their respective pasts. But when their secrets are finally revealed, will their chance at starting over together still be there?

After reading the blurb for Again, I knew I had to read it. How could you pass up the chance to read about a 29 year old posing as a 19 year old college student? How could this possibly go well?

Yeah, it can't…

Kate has royally f-ed up her life. We’re talking go-big-or-go-home style. She recently got fired from her assistant job at a NYC law firm. Not so bad, right? Just wait… Her former, very married boss, was also her lover. Not good.  She also has a MASSIVE drinking problem. After making a fool of herself at the company Christmas party, finding herself jobless, and losing the current lust of her life, Kate decides that the only logical move is to doctor her transcripts, pretend to be 19, and go back to college.
When has lying ever gotten anyone anywhere?! I guess it gets you somewhere… but serving time for fraud isn’t exactly where one would hope to find themselves… The more lies you tell the further down the rabbit hole you go until you finally hit rock bottom.

This book has all that, and more…

Soon it would be at my lips and kissing hers would be the only way I could breathe. The only way I could save us, the only thing that might ever save me.

It even has Carter - or should I say Chazz? - (HORRIBLE nickname; even Carter knows it’s atrocious. He puts up with it as punishment for choices made years ago.) Kate’s RA. Too bad Kate is determined to stay away from men. Plus, he’s 7 years younger than she is. Cougar alert! Needless to say, the two have trouble staying away from one another. And they’re both lying… It’s a mess. Eventually the truth comes out and the two are forced to face the music. There’s also a Goth roommate, two very slutty drunk floor mates, and gay best friend thrown in the mix.

I wasn’t supposed to be with Carter. If I was smart I would have stayed the hell away, but I couldn’t picture my life without him. Even with all our lies between us, his kiss, his touch, were the truest thing I’d ever known.

Again was my first taste of Lisa Burstein. While I wasn’t blown away, it was an entertaining read that moved along fairly quickly and held just the right amount of drama. I think Lisa could have done a little more with the storyline and there were occasional moments where I wished I was able to physically slap Kate… but overall, Again was a sweet HEA read. I look forward to reading more of Lisa’s work in the near future.

A story of heart-stopping, toe-curling passion by the beloved bestselling author of Hard to Love, Resisting Her, and The Impact of You.

Straight-laced and well-mannered southerner Emmy Clarke is out of her depth in New York City’s fashion world, but when she lands a job as an assistant at a modeling agency it seems like the perfect mix of business and pleasure. Working under the notoriously tyrannical Fiona Stone is a nightmare, but there’s one distinct perk: ogling the ridiculously hot male models who parade through the office—particularly rising star Ben Shaw.

Ben is everything Emmy’s not: exquisitely gorgeous, highly paid, and well-traveled. He’s also got more issues than Vogue. Emmy looks after Ben on photo shoots, but she refuses to become another one of his lusting groupies. Ben finds Emmy’s refreshingly real attitude to be surprisingly attractive.

Against a backdrop of the most fashionable cities in the world, casual flirting turns into an illicit affair, but when Ben’s twisted past is revealed, and the bitter Fiona catches wind of their relationship, their careers and hearts are threatened.

In Working It, New York Times bestselling author Kendall Ryan delivered a sexy and addictive contemporary romance about Emmy Clarke, a sweet southern girl out of her depth in New York City’s cutthroat fashion industry, and Ben Shaw, the hot male model who introduced her to a world of pleasure. But their story is far from complete…

Emmy Clarke is no quitter. Toughened by her experience working for fashion heavyweight Fiona Stone, Emmy has come a long way from her country girl roots, embracing her fast-paced and unpredictable life in New York City.

Though that life comes with more than a few complications.

First there’s the mystery of Fiona’s pregnancy, which may or may not involve Emmy’s boyfriend, superstar male model Ben Shaw. Emmy has always known that Ben comes with more baggage than she can handle—and not the Louis Vuitton kind. Yet Ben is the only man who has ever loved Emmy for who she is, and she wants nothing more than to do the same for him, even if it means forgiving his past and overlooking their wildly different lifestyles.

But when a shocking secret from Ben’s past comes to light, unraveling all of their progress, Emmy must decide if their relationship is worth the fight, or if it’s time to ignore her passion for him and let go.
